An Ohio mother is facing murder charges after allegedly leaving her 16-month-old daughter home alone for over a week, resulting in the child’s death.

Kristel Candelario, 31, was arrested by the Cleveland Division of Police on June 16 when officers found her young daughter unresponsive at their Cleveland home around 8 a.m., according to USA Today.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene and declared the child deceased, as stated in the incident report.

Although no visible signs of physical trauma were observed by the police, a full autopsy by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of the toddler’s death, confirming that she passed away during the ten days of being left unattended.
