Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently visited a renowned New York City pizza restaurant, Grimaldi’s, to express his opposition to Mayor Eric Adams’ potential regulation on coal-fired ovens as part of the Left’s green policy push.

DeSantis, a Republican presidential candidate, was accompanied by “Jesse Watters Primetime” host Jesse Watters during his visit. They discussed the issue with Anthony Piscina, the co-owner of Grimaldi’s.

Piscina invited Watters and DeSantis to try their hand at cooking a pizza. The governor’s campaign reached out to Grimaldi’s after learning about Adams’ supposed anti-pizza policy. Mayor Adams, however, clarified that he does not hold any animosity towards the city’s famous pizza establishments.

Piscina informed DeSantis that he was pleased to have expanded Grimaldi’s to Florida and humorously presented a large piece of Pennsylvania coal, jokingly labeling it as “the culprit” and proclaiming it to be “the best, cleanest-burning coal there ever is.”

DeSantis, whose father Ronald hailed from Aliquippa, Penn., near the state’s coalfields, criticized the Left’s opposition to coal-fired ovens. He offered an example of what his state, Florida, has done to counteract such opposition.

“In Florida, when they targeted gas stoves, we made gas stoves tax-free in our state, eliminating the sales tax. We can implement a similar approach for coal-fired ovens,” DeSantis expressed.

The governor also stated that he would “roll out the red carpet” if New York’s beloved pizza shops decided to relocate to Florida due to the proposed regulations.

DeSantis then had the opportunity to toss a pizza in Grimaldi’s brick oven, which is now under scrutiny. He later enjoyed the finished product with Watters.

“The fact that they would go after this? I mean, honestly: even people leaving New York who complain about what’s happening here would never have imagined they would target this. Pizza is a staple of this city,” DeSantis remarked.
